For tap we find any shoe with as little grip as possible and a harder sole to make a bit of noise is great, this way they feel they are getting to join in properly.
We do have a second-hand shoe page on Facebook for our enrolled students where you may be able to find some to fit at a reduced price (you are also welcome to post other dance shoes you may have lying around for sale).
